Triode spotify - player unable to connect to helper app

I know I've come across this problem before, but can't remember if I ever solved it. I know I've read the same multiple pages on this forum before about it! Having just reinstalled my whole system, I'm stuck again with the problem and want to try and tackle it. Things seem to work however: I can use spotify ok. What exactly does the helper app do therefore? Does the fact that I can use spotify indicate that the helper app is actually working properly- is it essential for operation or just 'help'?

Using Squeezebox Classic (3) (have a spare one I haven't tried), and SoftSqueeze locally - tried with each one on in isolation. Running LMS 7.8.1 (was using 7.7.5 before) on Windows 7 64bit. Running on a home LAN/router, ethernet being used. Have AVG internet security, but have disabled the firewall. Using Triode's excellent Spotify app, the official one is disabled.

When we hit the Self-Test button in Triode:
Success for the 1st 4 (Helper app running, logged in, spotify metadata ok, streaming from spotify ok).
PLAYER UNABLE TO CONNECT: Fail. "Player did not connect to helper app - check your firewall allows the helper app to receive incoming connections from players on the helper app port defined above"

I have tried the app port on 9005 and 9006, and have tried the CLI interface port on 9090 and 9091 without any further success.

My logging is set to 'debug'. Below is the entry for this test. 11:53:50 is where the connecting to helper app starts.
Any thoughts on what to try next or where the problem could be, or whether there actually isn't a problem!? Many thanks everyone :)

Custom Scan: iTunes import no longer working

Hi Erland,

Longtime happy user of the Custom Scan, Trackstat & iTunes import/export here. The main use is the synchronisation of new ratings.
But since a few weeks, I'm not able to get my new ratings from iTunes into LMS with the Custom Scan iTunes import.
This happens in the log after manually triggering an iTunes import in Custom Scan:

Code:

Any ideas?

To be sure: I'm using a fairly recent version of LMS 7.9 and the latest iTunes (12.1).

The New HSL files on windows PC

Although everyone is very helpful with advice on how to do this and that, I find that really KISS is always best.

To save time for other users here is a summary of how I got HSL to work on my laptop, running Windows 8.1 Pro with LMS v 7.8 community.

It’s just refers to the most significant post by bpa

1. You need ffmpeg.exe on your system. To install that you may need 7Zip. I installed ffmpeg.exe (static 64 bit) into the LMS Bin directory alongside faad.exe - if you are unsure get Windows to find the files faad.exe and sox.exe.
The ffmpeg.exe came from here - http://ffmpeg.zeranoe.com/builds/
2. On LMS GUI Settings/Plugins add the following URL to repository URLs at bottom of page. http://bpaplugins.googlecode.com/svn...po-playhls.xml
3. Click Apply - LMS should restart.
4. PlayHLS should appear as a plugin on bpa repository at bottom of page. Install as per normal and if necessary enable it.
5. LMS should restart
6. Check in WebGUI Settings/Advanced/Filetype that there a Apple HLS m3u8 File type and there are 3 ffmpeg entries set and not greyed out or disabled.

To get the file you need to unpack the file using 7zip and locate the .exe

C:\Users\Ronnie\Desktop\ffmpeg\ffmpeg-20150214-git-ac7fc44-win64-static\bin

http://

Then locate the LMS Bin directory,

1) I went:

C:\Program Files (x86)>Squeezebox>server>Bin>MSWin32-x86-multi-thread

http://

And just dragged the file across

For the plug-in

http://

and check the files

http://

Restarted the Laptop and played some files.

Hope this helps

Props to all the folk doing the hard work.

BBC Radio applet on mysqueezebox.com

Given the success of the LMS developers in getting the new BBC streams to work in LMS may I ask a question on behalf of the layman?
I used to use my Touch and my SB Radio exclusively on mysqueezebox.com using Triode's BBC Radio applet, only using LMS when I wanted to stream music from my PC. (Windows 7 64 bit). Is it likely that the functionality I used to have will be restored in the light of the remarkable things that have been achieved?

Announce: PlayHLS Plugin - plugin to play Apple HLS m3u8 stream

The PlayHLS plugin enables Apple HLS stream to be played. HLS means HTTP Live streaming.
The plugin can be installed using LMS and this 3rd party repository. http://bpaplugins.googlecode.com/svn...po-playhls.xml

Apple HLS stream are normal URL with http:// and ending with m3u8 . The audio can be encoded with AAC, MP3 and AC-3. When trying to play non AAC URLs with this plugin it may be necessary to disable a File Type setting.

The plugin relies on the 3rd party application ffmpeg to handle the HLS stream. The version of ffmpeg is important - it is not clear but version after 0.8 seem to be OK.

Before installing the plugin - check that there is a build of ffmpeg available for your system. On many Ubuntu / Debian system there is a compatible fork of ffmpeg called avconv as part of the libavconv-tools package.

SoftSqueeze not playing the new BBC HLS streams

Thanks to the sterling efforts of everyone involved in iPlayer plugin thread (which seems to be growing faster than I can read it...), I have the BBC HLS streams working on my Windows 7 LMS 7.7.3 server + Squeezebox Boom & Squeezebox Radio.

However, I can't get the new HLS streams to work with SoftSqueeze 3.9b2. I have SoftSqueeze (also running on my LMS server) synced with my hardware players, but it refuses to play the HLS streams — they burst into life on the hardware players when I quit SoftSqueeze, and stop as soon as I start it. SoftSqueeze seems to buffer the new HLS streams, but doesn't seem to get to 100%.

I know SoftSqueeze is ancient now, but does anyone know what the problem might be? Or is there a newer alternative to SoftSqueeze?

Hi,

I've got LMS running with PiCorePlayer on a few pi's and squeezelite for windows...

Is it possible to stream different tunes to different zones from Spotify?

I know it works on Sonos - but will it work in this environment?

If not, is there a music service similar which will allow it?

RadioFeeds UK & Ireland plugin now listing BBC HLS streams

We've now added a menu item that'll point to the BBC's HLS streams:
- 48k/96k AAC+ international streams (notated by '^' and '^^' respectively)
- 128k/320k AAC domestic streams (which should air any live sports coverage), notated by '^^^' and '^^^^' respectively.

An installation of FFMPEG on the server is required as well as the PlayHLS plugin.
More information on this can be found at http://forums.slimdevices.com/showth...LS-m3u8-stream
Unfortunately, not every platform will support this.

Access to these streams can be found through RadioFeeds UK & Ireland -> Browse UK Radio by Name -> BBC HLS streams
Because of the large number of streams available, these streams will not show up in genre browse, nor in search results.

Thanks go to those who have figured out how to play these HLS streams on the Squeezebox.

New users: Details of how to obtain our plugin is in the signature below.

Can anyone tell me how I can make squeezelite (local player on LMS 7.9) on a new mac mini play mp3-files? I don't know how to correctly install lame or other programs to make it work.
Is it possible to make the mac automatically chose the correct sampling rate using squeezelite?
Best regards

Very cool! With your precompiled packages of squeezelite I can play all
music formats I'd like to! Thanks a lot!

Is somewhere described how compilation of the packages on OSX can be done?

HLS for dummies

Hi I have been struggling with the various threads on HLS. I live outside the UK. I have LMS running on Windows 7 and my players are Touch, Classic and Duo. All of my BBC iPlayer streaming has broken in common with everybody else. The generic BBC player does work with MP3 streams but I get constant drop outs (very irritating any increasing buffering does not resolve it). I followed one of the threads and installed the third party LMA repository courtesy of BPA also also installed ffmpeg.exe which came from here - http://ffmpeg.zeranoe.com/builds/. Please see attached screenshots of the settings in Plugins and Advanced File Settings. The bottom line is nothing working for me apart from the patchy basic BBC app. It seems that there might be issues with the version of ffmpeg. If so can somebody point at a reliable destination url please rather than indicating it is available from a particular website or page as there appears there can be several options on the sites that do have ffmpeg downloads available.

Does anyone have this working?

VLC as a transcoder

Hi,

Has anyone been able to use vlc as a transcoder for a plugin?

I've been trying to use it to support MPEG-DASH in a proof of concept plugin (trying to get ahead of the Beeb) but I can't get it to work.

First of all, I think VLC 3 is required, which I have installed on my Mac (this makes it a bit more difficult as there isn't a simple vlc binary in /usr/bin etc)

What I have a is a simple script in my plugin/Bin directory:

Code:

#!/bin/sh
/Applications/VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/VLC

which is executable, then in my custom-convert.conf I have:

Code:

dash flc * *
        # RB:{BITRATE=-B %B}T:{START=-ss %s}
        [playdash.sh] $FILE$ -I dummy -q --no-sout-video --sout '#transcode{acodec=flac,channels=2,ab=128,samplerate=44100}:standard{access=file,mux=dummy,dst=-}' vlc://quit -

(Which I'm sure bpa will realise has been based heavily/copied from the excellent playHLS plugin - i tried the playhls.sh but that didn't work either when changing the app path so I've tried to simplify it a lot)

I have the transcoding option enabled under file types so that's all good, but nothing happens when I try and play a DASH stream. I have validated the DASH stream works with the command line:

Code:

/Applications/VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/VLC <stream> -I dummy -q --no-sout-video --sout '#transcode{acodec=flac,channels=2,ab=128,samplerate=44100}:standard{access=file,mux=dummy,dst=-}' vlc://quit -
In that it dumps a lot of binary output to the console so I think it's more my plugin set up that isn't working.

Announce: PlayDASH Plugin

Hi Everyone,

Following on from bpa's PlayHLS plugin, I've created a copy with a few tweaks that allow MPEG-DASH streams to be played through a squeezebox. I'm afraid the plugin in it's current form will only work on a Mac and VLC version 3 (from nightly build) must be installed in the Mac's Applications folder.

When installed correctly, you should see a new file type available under Advanced -> File Types:

MPEG-DASH DASH mpd

This uses playdash.sh to convert to FLAC (playdash.sh is included in the plugin and is just a wrapper to call VLC).

I've tested this against an mpd file stored locally on a web server that was generated from an AAC file using MP4Box and it works without issue. VLS is started and stopped as the stream is started and stopped.

I haven't yet been able to test it with a live internet feed so feel free to give it a go and report back any issues.

I'd like to thank bpa for his PlayHLS plugin as this is basically a customisation of that with some bits of the Xplay plugin thrown in; without bpa's plugins as a base I could't have created this.

Finally, this is more of a proof of concept plugin I decided to create for a number of reasons:

1. The BBC has said it will eventually move to MPEG-DASH format so this is to try and help avoid everyone getting caught out as we all did when they switched to HLS.
2. To prove to myself that sticking with squeezebox and not selling up and buying a Sonos system was the right thing to do. While they still await HLS support, we now have both HLS and MPEG-DASH support.

To install the plugin, use the repo here:

Could I suggest that somebody with the knowledge list out all available HLS streams please in one concise post including UK and Non-UK streams also broken out by high bit rate and low bit rate? Just conscious of the huge amount of posts that need to be waded through to get the relevant info. :o

Would somebody be so good as to put together a concise post on getting HLS to work under Apple OS X to include location of the Menu.opml, enabling LAME etc. A lot of the Apple related posts are scattered in other threads :)

Just bought a Nokia Lumia with with Windows Phone 8.1 loaded. I've installed Squeeze Control to control the players at home, but I'm desperately looking for a way to stream my music, in mp3 or flac (grandfathered - unlimited data).

I streamed music to my Android phone using multiple methods, utilizing both LMS and Subsonic Music Streamer. None of the Subsonic apps are working right on my Windows Phone, and the silence is killing me! - Any suggestions, even in light of...

...as posted in the Squeeze Control for Windows Phone thread...not too worried about either the music cutting out for a call/text or those being ignored until the music stops playin, if I understand the above limitations correctly.

Thanks for any help and/or suggestions!

How do I get BBC iPlayer to work - I am confused - help please

First of all I have a :Server : RPi 2 running Logitech Media Server Version: 7.9.0 - 1424171779 ( Squeezeplug upgraded with no player) also added Apache; PHP MySQL for web development
player : RPi B+ running Picoreplayer with a HiFi Berry DAC.
player 2 : Logitech UE Smart Radio configured to connect to the LMS

My understanding at the moment is that to get BBC iPlayer plugin ( Triode) to work again I need to
Install the PlayHLS plugin onto the server
Install bonze's menu.opml onto the server
Install ffmeg on the player.

First of all is this correct. If so does anyone have all the instructions so that fools like me can follow them in one place?

I have failed at the first hurdle because although the plugin maybe installed it does not appear in the advanced menu and the drop down in the plugin menu is blank. Reading around it maybe because I have the latest version of the server but I am not too sure.

Can anyone help please
